Lord Provost launches Digital Sentinel

Digital Sentinel Launch Event

An enthusiastic audience of almost 50 people gathered in the Wester Hailes Library on Monday 7 October 2013 to celebrate the official launch of the Digital Sentinel, the new online community news service for the area.

This was formally announced by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, the Right Honourable Donald Wilson, by publicly sending a Twitter message to this effect, which was then quickly re-tweeted by many others from throughout the UK to share the good news.

The event was the culmination of several months of media training being undertaken by local residents as they continue gain the various skills required to become “citizen journalists”, and made possible by a grant from the Carnegie UK Trust’s UK wide “Neighbourhood News” initiative. After the official launch, several of these local citizen journalists interviewed some of those present and these short video clips can be accessed below.

The Wester Hailes Sentinel was founded in 1976. Latterly known as The West Edinburgh Times was a much loved print newspaper which folded June 2008
