Wester Hailes Community Connections Festival

A whole fortnight of activities is planned for the Wester Hailes’ Community Connections Festival. Organised by the Our Place in Time partnership with funding support from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the festival will celebrate community life: past, present and future.

Our Place in Time Exhibition

Opens Tuesday 16 June 2015, 1.00pm

An exhibition of photos from the Sentinel archive at the Healthy Living Centre.

Come along to see if your memories match the photos in this exhibition organised by the Our Place In Time partnership. You might even spot yourself in one of the photos!

Big Walk: Poetry In Motion

Wednesday 17 June 2015, 12.30pm – 2.00pm

Guided walk through Wester Hailes led by local historian and featuring poetry reading at key sites by famed Wester Hailes poet Colin Bartie. Meet at the Healthy Living Centre.

Our Place In Time Poem Video Shoot

Thursday 18 June 2015, 11.00am – 3.00pm

Growing Space Planting Workshop

Friday 19 June 2015, 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Get planting in the new WHALE garden – you could help plant vegetables and flowers, and there will be herb cups to take away as well as a cup of tea while you’re there! At WHALE Arts Centre.

Visit from Cassiltioun Housing Association and the ACCORD project

Come along to find out more about using photogrammetry and laser scanning: you could produce a 3D printed mini totem pole! Meet at Wester Hailes Totem Pole. Call 0131 458 3267 if you want to come along!

Wide range of information on health issues, local courses and learning opportunities at the Healthy Living Centre.

Big Walk: Paint It Back: features the Edinburgh Sketcher!

Tuesday 23 June 2015, 12.00pm – 3.00pm

Guided walk with local historian, highlighting past, present and future sites key to Wester Hailes. The Edinburgh Sketcher will sketch selected locations. Meet at the Totem Pole.

Tea in the Park for the over 50s

Wednesday 24 June 2015, 2.00pm – 3.00pm

Run by Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust. For people aged 50+. Tea and scones, old photographs, live music. At hailes Quarry Park.

Westburn Village Voices Exhibition Opening

Saturday 27 June 2015, 6.00pm

Exhibition by local photographer Raymond Keith of members of Westburn community celebrating community life. At WHALE Arts Centre.

End of Festival Film Night and Closing Party

Saturday 27 June 2015, 6.00pm onwards

Featuring “Our Place In Time” film, premiere of Our Place In Time poetry reading film, showing of the 1984 “The Huts”, “Lets Meet At The Underpass” video, images of the Festival taken by WHALE Snappers Photography Group. Food, drink and good times at WHALE Arts Centre.
