Village in the Sky: High Rise Living in Oxgangs

We recently came across a book about living in high rises in Oxgangs titled ‘Village in the Sky’ created by Edinburgh Council’s Community Learning and Development, Dunedin Canmore Housing Association and local people and thought we would share it for anyone interested.

The book details the creation of the High Rises, originally knows as the Comiston Luxury Flats in the 1960s and charts life there until their destruction in the 2000s. It contains stories from people who were born and grew up living in the high rises and is worth a look for anyone with an interest in local history and could rekindle some memories of living in some of the high rises in Wester Hailes.

There is an embedded version of the booklet below, take a look!

If the book has interested you there will be a free event on Saturday 5 September 2015, 10.30am – 12.30pm at Oxgangs Library where Lost Edinburgh will give a presentation on the changes in Oxgangs. Click here to see a copy of the poster for Saturdays event. Contact Anne or Christine on 0131 458 5959 for more information or to book your place (all places must be booked in advance.)
