A group of thirty people from the Justice Leaders network came along to Wester Hailes today to attend a Collaborative Leadership event, finding out about the work done by the Living Well Wester Hailes project.
The Justice Leaders Network consists of people who work with the justice system and related sectors from across Scotland. The group were welcomed to Wester Hailes with a short circular social history walk created by local resident Eoghan Howard. The walk covered WHALE Arts, the Healthy Living Centre, Westside Plaza, the Totem Pole and the Prospect Community Housing Office before returning to WHALE.
There was then a discussion with the Living Well Wester Hailes Project team who outlined some of the work they have been doing in the area. The Living Well Wester Hailes project aims to work collaboratively allowing local council workers, doctors, charity organisations and local people to work together to try and solve problems as well as target the causes of problems.
Some of the work that has been done by the group has included the Open Space event and the follow-up event, where local people have outlined some of the issues they face and what is important to them. The groups working more closely together has also had a drastic effect on the help available to young people with the team giving the example of the trouble with young people at the library and throwing stones at the buses. The group were able to approach the problem from different angles, activities for the children were created by local organisations and police and social workers were able to work together with the children’s families.
