Local MP Joanna Cherry has challenged her staff to visit and support twenty-four different local organisations and campaigns as part of an Office Advent. Yesterday was their eighth day and the team paid a visit to the Wester Hailes Youth Agency.

The team, Lesley, George, and Andrew helped spread Christmas cheer and assisted the Youth Agency by wrapping presents for the Pyramid Christmas parties.

Speaking about the Youth Agency, Joanna Cherry said:

WHYA is testament to the importance that youth work can play on the lives of our young people. Since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South West, I have visited the youth agency on a couple of occasions and have been struck by the dedication of their staff and volunteers; and their passion for making a difference.

In providing a varied programme, workshops and group sessions that target the issues our young people are faced with, the youth agency have been successful in developing a strong rapport with the local community.

The importance of youth work in our communities is immense. Organisations such as the Wester Hailes Youth Agency play a vital role in encouraging our children and young people; improving their self esteem, providing guidance and support and equipping them with the skills required to succeed.

#TeamEdinSouthWest are continually amazed by the number of individuals who put so much back into their communities. From the Resilience Programme to their Streetwork sessions to their invaluable individual work, the Youth Agency in Wester Hailes should be celebrated for their dedication, enthusiasm and the lasting impact they are creating within the lives of our young people.
