Harvesters Way Development update

In 2010 Places for People completed their original development of 168 mixed tenure properties at Harvesters Way. This resulted in more people moving to Wester Hailes and many have settled in those properties. Overall this has supported the wider long term economic sustainability of the area and created a new addition to the local community.

Following continued local campaigning and the success of the initial development, Places for People and Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association had the confidence to progress plans, along with the support of the City of Edinburgh Council, to complete the entire regeneration of this once derelict site. A total of £21.8 million is being invested into the development, with £6.95 million from grant funding.

The final phase of the development at Harvesters Way will see a further 183 new affordable homes created. The site will include 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats and 2 and 3 bedroom townhouses for affordable rent, mid market rent and sale options. Part of the development has already been completed and people began to move in to their new homes before Christmas.

How can you move into one of the new homes?

Station

As part of their approach to create successful places, Places for People offer a range of affordable options to enable people to access a new home. Harvesters Way is no different. Homes are available for social rent, mid market rent and for sale.

Social Rent

Homes for social rent will be let and managed by Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, part of the Places for People Group. You will need to be registered with the Edinburgh Choice Based letting system Key to Choice, also known as Edindex, to be able to bid for any available properties.

You can download an application form from this website, http://keytochoice.scotsman.com/, call 0131 529 5080 or visit the local City of Edinburgh Council Area South West Neighbourhood Office, 10 Westside Plaza, Edinburgh, EH14 2ST.

Some properties have already been let but further homes will be available in February, June and July. Rents will start from £325 per month for a one bedroom flat.

Mid Rent

Some new homes have already been let for mid rent and people have moved in from the end of December. There was a strong demand for this first phase of the properties. Further new homes will be released for mid rent in March. To be eligible for mid rent you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have income of at least £12,000 per annum up to a maximum of £39,000 per annum per household.

One and two bedroom flats for mid rent will be let and managed by Places for People Scotland. They will be advertised through www.citylets.co.uk or you can call 0131 657 5139.

Housing For Sale

Places for People are selling 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, 2 and 3 bedroom duplexes and 3 bedroom townhouses at Harvesters Way. For further information, availability and prices visit http://www.harvestersway.co.uk/ or call 0845 266 6585.

Working together to create a successful place

WHALE-CLAY_132

Castle Rock Edinvar and Places for People have been involved in wider community activities in the area. They have provided £40,000 as a contribution to the redevelopment of the local underpass.

Working with WHALE they provided £7000 of funding to support a Street Art project based around the site for local children.

As part of the contract with housing specialist Lovell, three pre-apprentice opportunities have been provided. So far this has resulted in two young people securing full apprenticeships in electrical works and brickwork.

Once building work has been completed staff will continue to work in the area and support close working relationships with other local agencies.
