Garden action as Westburn CAN plan ahead

We took a trip to the WHALE Arts Centre today to have a look at all the great work being carried out by local people and the Westburn CAN team who are creating a new gardening hub behind the WHALE.

The group meet  twice a week on Mondays and Fridays at 10.30am – 2.30pm at the WHALE Arts centre and had planned to spend today relaxing, celebrating all the work they have done, enjoying a sausage or two from the barbecue and seeing what plans they could make for the future.

However planning was halted when the group of eager gardeners turned up ready for work and not wanting to waste the nice weather! They quickly took to action cutting back plants, digging up weeds and putting the finishing touches on a few more beds.

The group have made a lot of progress over the past few weeks with raised beds, benches and even a new set of stairs rapidly appearing behind the building, not to mention the assortment of edible goodies which are now sprouting up everywhere!

They are open to everyone and would like to invite anyone who is interested to come along to one of their regular gardening sessions on Mondays and Fridays at 10.30am – 2.30pm at the WHALE Arts centre.

Westburn CAN has also recently announced that they will be teaming with Prospect to clean up the Westburn Woods. They plan to remove some of the litter near the Westburn stone, cut back some of the plants and create a hub for the community, making it a more pleasing area for local families and dog walkers. They invite you to come along and help out on Friday 12 August and Monday 15 August 2016, meeting at 10.30am in the wooded area beside the Woods Centre.
