SWOP set to continue

Prospect is very pleased to announce that the Scottish Legal Aid Board has agreed to extend the funding for the South West Outreach Project which will now be able to continue offering free, confidential and independent welfare benefits advice to social housing tenants in South West Edinburgh. The funding has been extended until March 2017.

Prospect is the lead partner for this joint project, working in partnership with CHAI who provide the advisor, and the City of Edinburgh Council. The SWOP project has been offering advice and support since November 2013. During this time it has helped over 700 people and gained over £400,000 for clients.

SWOP’s full time advisor provides an outreach service, using local community venues so that people affected by welfare benefit issues can find advice and support quickly. The sessions are on a weekly basis and offer drop in as well as appointments. With many people facing challenging economic times, we wanted to make sure people could access support close to their homes. Local tenants have been helped with a wide range of problems including rent arrears, housing benefit, discretionary housing payments, and universal credit.

If you would like to make an appointment please phone 0845 3024607 and ask for the SWOP project.
