A little bit of wet weather wasn’t enough to stop a group of dedicated gardeners who joined Westburn CAN and Prospect Community Housing by heading along with tools, tea and a barbecue to help clear up the Westburn woods and make it a much better area for the community.
The group plan to clear up the woods by removing the rubbish that has been dumped there, cutting back the overgrown bushes and trees and strimming the long grass, before celebrating with a burger or sausage from the barbecue.
The clean up had been arranged after some of the team from Westburn CAN spoke to local people who were concerned about the litter and overgrown plants as they use the woods to walk their dogs. After hearing that clearing the woods was something that the Westburn Neighborhood Council had done in the past they were convinced!
Today is the first of two trips to the woods so there is still time to head along and lend a hand as the team are returning on Monday, 15 August 2016, for the finishing touches.
If you would like to learn more about gardening or are looking for a new hobby then head along to Westburn Can’s regular gardening hubs at the WHALE Arts Centre, Mondays and Fridays 10.30am – 2.30pm.
