A Small Sparks grant awarded today by the Wester Hailes Community Trust will see a pond built in Clovenstone providing a new home for aquatic plants.
The award of £250 presented to Pauline Whalen will see a small 1 metre pond built in Clovenstone, with the award being used to purchase tools, materials and aquatic plants.
Pauline hopes the pond will be used and maintained by local residents as well as used for education purposes by the school and community centre. She explained that the pond site will also be a wildlife corner and that the RSPB have given helpful advice on how to attract wildlife as well as how to keep the pond safe.
Receiving the award by the area identified for the pond, Pauline said
We are all working together on the design and have a plan in place. This part of the garden will look much better once the pond is in.
The WHCT’s “Small Sparks” fund provides small grants of up to £250 to local individuals and groups to help make a difference in Wester Hailes.
