First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, paid a visit to the WHALE Arts Centre today to launch the SNP Council Manifesto for the upcoming Local Government elections and meet with local community groups.
The First Minister, joined by local MP Joanna Cherry and local MSP Gordon Macdonald was given a tour of the WHALE Arts Centre, discussing ongoing projects with WHALE Arts Director Allan Farmer and meeting with local artists and crafters. Ms Sturgeon was then shown the WHALE Community garden by Westburn CAN participants and artists Michael Bowdidge and Mirja Koponen where she was presented with a pair of hand made earrings by Mirja. The First Minster also met staff from local organisations SCOREscotland and Dads Rock who share the WHALE Arts Centre, posing for photos with newest Dads Rocker, six month old Ollie Lynch.
Finally the First Minister posed for photos with SNP Edinburgh Council candidates in front of a new mural by artist Fraser Gray. The official launch of the manifesto before the council elections on Thursday 4 May 2017.
Speaking of the Local Government elections the First Minister said:
These elections decide who is responsible for running your local services and will determine whether we invest in services or allow the Tories to extend their cuts agenda into the heart of local communities.
Councils make key decisions about all of our communities and it is essential that we elect strong SNP councils across the country.
