WHALE Arts recruiting for new Heritage Lottery funded project

WHALE Arts Agency has announced they are currently looking to recruit a Freelance Archivist, a Freelance Artist and a Genealogist for their new Heritage Lottery funded project ‘Wester Hailes: Your Story, Our Story’.


Freelance Artist Post

WHALE Arts seeks an experienced artist to deliver a series of arts and heritage sessions for children and young people that will explore themes of identity, place, migration and belonging as part of our Heritage Lottery funded ‘Wester Hailes: Your Story, Our Story’ project.

This facet of the project will consist of teaching sessions and an artist commission that creatively interprets the outcomes of the sessions. The final artwork can be in a variety of media – as deemed appropriate and in agreement with the project manager. Sessions will include evaluation and monitoring.

The artist will plan, prepare and deliver the sessions, as well as source appropriate materials, in agreement with the project manager. The artist will have the assistance of a support worker during the sessions that will provide support for children with Additional Support Needs to participate.

Content:
4 x 2 hour teaching sessions
1 x 2 hour group trip
1 x artwork

Timescale:
Workshops with children and young people to take place July 2017. The commission is to be completed by January 2018.

Payment: £1300

Requirements:
Artist must have appropriate skills and experience as per the Person Specification. This role is conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure Scotland certificate or PVG certificate.


Freelance Archivist Post

The archivist will document collections from the WHALE Arts archive in order to preserve items and make records accessible for future use. The archivist will engage community activists to share their stories about the community of Wester Hailes, in particular how this relates to the formation of WHALE Arts, and will produce an exhibition for the WHALE Arts Centre.

Timescale:
The project is to be completed by January 2018.

Payment: £1000

Requirements:
Archivist must have appropriate skills and experience as per the Person Specification. This role is conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure Scotland certificate or PVG certificate.


Genealogist Post

The genealogist will work with adult participants to discover their family history and learn how they came to live in Wester Hailes. The genealogist will plan, prepare and deliver the ancestry sessions, as well as source appropriate materials, in agreement with the project manager. The genealogist will teach participants how to access Edinburgh’s libraries and archives through a series of research trips and will document the progress of the project.

Content:
12 x 2 hour teaching sessions
8 x 2 hour group trips

Timescale:
The project is to be completed by January 2018.

Payment: £2450

Requirements:
Genealogist must have appropriate skills and experience as per the Person Specification. This role is conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure Scotland certificate or PVG certificate.
