Big Lottery Fund success for local groups

Several local organisations are delighted to be amongst the fifty organisations across Scotland who will benefit from £9.6 million funding from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland.

The funding from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland comes from its £250 million pot to support people and communities to overcome challenging circumstances.

Health all Round received £53,353. They will use this to run a group which will employ a Befriending/Development Worker to support older people in South West Edinburgh so that they can integrate more into community life. The group will address issues of isolation and loneliness by promoting positive contact between local people of different generations. The Worker will be responsible for running a range of activities and managing a group of volunteer befrienders.

The Health Agency was awarded £150,000 which will be used to continue their support project for people with a diagnoses of cancer or other life limiting illness, and their families. The project provides practical, emotional and social support, complementary therapies and a befriending service. Those with a diagnosis, undergoing treatment, in recovery or receiving palliative care will have access to a number of specialist counselling sessions.

WHALE Arts Agency received £148,776 which will be used to run a range of creative activities for people living in the Wester Hailes area. The organisation will run a programme of outreach work with the seven neighbourhoods of Wester Hailes so the community can shape and then build on arts-based ideas for the spaces they live in. This initiative will lead towards the delivery of a year of local events and activities in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Wester Hailes.

Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said:

I am delighted that these organisations have been successful in securing a Big Lottery Fund grant. The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish them every success as they go on to develop and expand their projects for the benefit of their local community.

Thanks to National Lottery players, this £9.6 million investment will reach into communities across Scotland and transform the lives of local people.  Each of these inspiring projects will assist people at the times when they need most support, providing them with the tools, confidence and skills to work towards a more positive future.
