Little Free Library for children launched at Wee Soup Garden

Edible Estates and Edinburgh Tool Library are happy to announce the launch of their first Little Free Library for children (LFL) at The Wee Soup Garden.

Local resident Wayne Shennan, who is a member of the Edinburgh Tool Library was involved in the construction of this very creative structure. He came along today with one of his daughters to admire his handy-work and to enjoy some homemade soup. Thanks again for getting involved in this project Wayne.

Children living in the area are to be encouraged to help themselves to a book from the Soup Can and then either bring it back, or exchange it for something they already have. The main thing is that reading materials are reaching more people.

Local lad Logan christened the LFL by borrowing the first book and Gill from The Murrayburn and Hailesland Community Park Association generously made the first donation of books.

The LFL will be checked regularly to make sure it is always stocked up. It joins one already located in the Healthy Living Centre and the group plans to construct another Little Free Library for Clovenstone. It is hoped the project will promote literacy and child development, compliment bookbug and council Library provision, promote book ownership for children, promote the sharing economy, enhance community ties.

If you have any questions, or you wish to make a donation, please contact Stacey on 0773 334 2547
