Construction Work begins on former Huts site

Work has now started on the Hailesland Place development beginning construction of 32 affordable homes on the site next to Canal View Primary school which previously held the Huts.

The work at Hailesland, which is being carried out by Robertson Group, will consist of 32 affordable homes made up of one block of 22 flats and 10 terraced/semi detached homes. These would then be divided into 21 for social rent and 11 for mid rent market.

Describing their plans for the site Robertson said:

The proposals consist of a mix of terraced houses and a 4 storey flatted block. The flatted block responds to the massing of Murrayburn Place to the west, whilst the terraced houses reflect the smaller scale buildings around the eastern boundary. New footpaths will complement the local pedestrian network helping to link together the neighbourhood.

Hailesland is one of three sites in Wester Hailes which will see homes built on it as part of the Council Small Sites Development, the others being 37 affordable homes in Fernieneuk previously known as Calder Gardens and 49 affordable homes on Dumbryden Drive.

The developments are part of a wider council programme to contribute to the demand for new homes in Edinburgh over the next 10 years.
