WHCT award sees makeover for Calder Community Flat

The Calders Community Flat has had a bit of a makeover thanks to funding of £300 presented to two local school girls by the Wester Hailes Community Trust.

The two £150 Small Sparks awards were presented to Melissa Duff and Emma Partridge who wanted to decorate some of the rooms in the Community flat, where their youth club is held making it a more friendly and welcoming place.

After successfully receiving the award the girls, alongside other members of the youth club run by local organisation About Youth, got hard at work painting one of the rooms in the flat.

Speaking of the work the girls said:

Melissa Duff

It’s brilliant that we’ve been able to do something together to improve the flat
Emma Partridge
Decorating the flat has made it look better and become a nicer place to be
The Calder Youth Group runs out of the Calder Community Flat, situated at the bottom of Dunsyre House, every Tuesday from 5.00pm to 7.00pm and provides local young people aged 11 to 17 (S1 to S6) with access to a space where they can safely meet with peers to relax, socialise and take part in activities.
