Feed the Birds with Dads Rock

Feed the Birds with Dads Rock, that was the plan on Saturday up at Hailes Quarry Park at the official unveiling of the new Bird Table by David Marshall from Dads Rock.

The table was designed by some of the families who attend Dads Rock Saturday playgroup (10am – 11.30am), fabricated and sculpted by the sculptor Lauren Fox and then concreted into place with the help David Marshall and Roy King from Dads Rock.

The official unveiling took place on Saturday 11th November 2017, a crisp cold but bright winter’s morning attended by a small but enthusiastic crowd of people. After the event there was some activities organised by Abby (from Edinburgh & Lothian Greenspace Trust) and some warm drinks and nibbles. The table has hooks around the edge to hang feeders and fat balls on. This area of the Quarry is a small wooded area where people can come and visit and study various types of wildlife and plants. It is hoped this bird table will see much use from the local wildlife and will age and weather, becoming a natural part of the wood.

David Marshall from Dads Rock told us

Dads Rock asked our Wester Hailes group families to come up with an idea to design something as a group, but 18 months ago we didn’t know what.

We all spoke about how much fun we have when we go to the Hailes Quarry Park as a group, we spend time down there throughout the year.

The Bird Table/Feeder idea was then born.

We knew of Lauren Fox’s work through her website and the amazing pieces she has done in Edinburgh. We applied to Wester Hailes Community Trust for funding and we were successful to receive it.

The outcome of the funding is now for all to see and feel and experience within the Quarry Park

The table was funded by the  Wester Hailes Community Trust award.
