Local MP joins in with St Nicholas Day celebration

Local MP Joanna Cherry paid a visit to St Nicholas Church on Sunday to join in with their St Nicholas Day celebration as part of her team’s annual Office Advent Project.

For the third year in a row the MP for Edinburgh South West has challenged her staff to get involved in supporting local organisations and campaigns throughout the month of December.

St Nicholas Church hold the annual St Nicholas Day celebration to try to make sure that all local children receive a Christmas gift and have  a fun filled day.

Previously the staff have headed to Wester Hailes Youth Agency to lend a hand  wrapping Christmas presents for the young people who attend the groups and workshops.

Writing about the visit on Facebook Ms Cherry said:

I was delighted to accept an invitation to attend a special Santa Day service at St Nicholas Church in Sighthill this morning.

The service was led mainly by young people in the community and I was delighted to see all the singing, dancing and reading. I had the opportunity to give a vote of thanks at the end and congratulate all the young people on their efforts.

The main purpose of the event was to ensure every child receives a Christmas present and a good time during the Christmas period. It was a real privilege to attend and a brilliant way to really kick off the lead up to Christmas.
