WHALE release online public film archive

WHALE Arts is proud to present a new online public VHS archive containing footage captured by WHALE over its 25 years of existence.

The archive has been created by artist Christ Dooks as part of WHALE’s Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Wester Hailes: Your Story, Our Story’ project. It is full of footage created over WHALE’s 25 year history including, WHALE’s official launch, Wester Hailes carnivals, short films created by local group like Moving Parts Theatre Company and Snapcorp, there’s even interviews about WHALE’s venues at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

There exists a small but interesting archive, and so I’ve been slowly digitising, editing and uploading the works to a Youtube channel. You can either go to the channel or watch the works on this site’s FILMS pages.

If you have made something with WHALE on VHS or other formats and you’d like to see it here, please contact us with the form on this page. Or even if it’s just to say hi.

If you see someone you know, be sure to leave a comment. WHALE would love to hear any memories you have of the films.

You can find the full VHS Archive on their website here or the Youtube Channel here.
