March Update from Community Policing Team

Pentland Hills Community Police officer Euan Chancellor has provided a quick update detailing some of the crime which took place in Wester Hailes in February.

These included:


Housebreakings

  • One housebreaking with intent to steal at Westburn Park. Nothing stolen.
  • Theft by housebreaking at Westburn Middlefield.
  • Housebreaking with intent to steal at Murrayburn Park. Nothing stolen.
  • Attempted Housebreaking at Dumbeg Park. No entry gained.

Enquires ongoing into all incidents.

Assaults

16 Assaults with 10 solved. Incidents of note included:

  • Assault and robbery at the canal path next to Hailesland Road. Male was swiftly identified by police and has been arrested and charged accordingly.
  • Assault and robbery at the pedestrian underpass opposite Calder View. Enquired ongoing by CID.

Road Safety/Initiatives

  • Male stopped whilst driving under the influence of drinks or drugs and with no insurance at Clovenstone Road. Arrested and  charged accordingly.

Theft

24 thefts with 3 solved. Incidents of note included:

  • Vehicle broken with intent to steal at Clovenstone Drive, nothing stolen
  • Vehicle broken with intent to steal at Murrayburn Place, nothing stolen
  • Attempted theft of a vehicle at Clovenstone Drive.
  • Theft of a motor vehicle at Barn Park Crescent.

Hate Crime

  • Incident of homophobic abuse at Wester Hailes Park. Suspect arrested and interviewed but insufficient evidence to charge.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Incidents of note included:

  • 5 positive drug stops with the Wester Hailes area throughout February
  • Incident at Clovenstone Gardens whereby male was arrested and charged for being in possession of a firearm without a licence (canister of spray)
  • Male well-known for anti-social behaviour at Westside Place caught in possession of significant quantity of cannabis. Arrested for possession with intent to supply and now subject of a bail curfew.
  • Drugs warrant executed at Barn Park – numerous items seized and enquiries ongoing.
  • Male caught at Murrayburn Place in possession of significant quantity of cannabis. Arrested and charged for possession with intent to supply.
  • Fireraising at Calder Crescent whereby bin chute set alight.
  • Drugs warrant executed at Murrayburn Green resulting in a seizure of drugs and three males being arrested.
