Save Our Schools organise protest at City Chambers

The Save Our Schools action group, would like to invite everyone who shares their view that both Wester Hailes Education Centre and Currie Community High school should remain open to a protest at the City Chambers tomorrow Friday, 15 June 2018, 3.00pm.

The Save Our Schools group is made up of people from across Baberton, Wester Hailes, Juniper Green and Currie and aims to present a common community voice arguing that the Council should keep and invest in the schools in their communities. The group has been campaigning for alternative option 1 which would see both WHEC and Currie Community High school remain open with renovations take place on the current buildings. The Wester Hailes members of the group will be meeting at Westside Plaza at 2.00pm before taking the bus along. They are offering help with transport costs.

Join with other schools to let the Council know that we all want our children to have a local school.

The Council had been planning to make a decision on 22 May 2018 on which alternative option to pursue after carrying out an informal consultation of the affected schools and parent councils. However, the Committee decided to postpone the decision and ask for more information after it emerged that parent councils from Clovenstone and Canal View primary school were instead in favor of Alternative Option 2 which would see a new High school built on Curriemuirend Park.

The Education, Children and Families Committee will make a decision on Thursday 21 June 2018 on which of the three alternative options should be pursued and move on to formal consultation.
