WHALE Arts recruiting Project Coordinator

WHALE Arts is looking to recruit a Project Coordinator to coordinate, develop and deliver their new Play Sense Create project, supporting creative engagement for children with additional support needs and/ or disabilities and their families.

The post is fixed term, contracted to 31 March 2020. The rate of pay is £1500, £20 per hour for 30 two and a half hour sessions with an extra £2250 for 15 Research, Development and evaluation days at £150 per day.

Main Activities and Key Responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Work closely with the Project Artist and WHALE Arts Creative Programme Manager to help develop the Play Sense Create programme.
  • Research and investigation into appropriate methodology, techniques, programme content and structure with young people with disabilities and their families, support organisations, charities and health professionals.
  • Support young people to participate in sessions.
  • Have responsibility for Child Protection and Health and Safety during sessions.
  • Communication and co-ordination with participants and their families
  • Outreach and communication with partner organisations ( cultural organisations, schools, third sector, social work, health professionals )
  • Work with partners to deliver suitable engagement opportunities, workshops and trips.
  • Deliver and coordinate and exhibitions and sharing events.
  • Monitor, document and evaluate participation using WHALE Arts’ systems and participative methods.
  • Work with the Creative Programme Manager to ensure all project funding requirements are met, reports completed and effective communication maintained with funders.
  • Take part in relevant training.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential skills

  • A commitment to and understanding of the importance of best practice in creative learning projects and programmes.
  • Educated to degree level in arts, education, or community work – or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work without supervision and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum 3 years experience in:

  • Working with and engaging children and young people in creative activity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting disabled young people and best practice to support participation
  • Developing and delivering engaging creative projects with and learners with additional support needs and disabilities.
  • Project co-ordination including project research and planning, budgeting, partnership working, monitoring and evaluation.
