Bin fires in Saughton Park

Police Scotland are appealing for the public’s assistance after a number of bins in Saughton Park were deliberately set alight.

The incident happened on Friday 19th April between 9.30pm and 11.30pm. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the flames, and thankfully nobody was injured as a result.

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the park around this time, or has any information to help us identify and trace those involved, to get in touch as soon as possible.

Sergeant Kieran Dougal from Wester Hailes Police Station said: “This has been a mindless act of vandalism that could have led to serious injury.

“Starting fires deliberately is pointless and extremely dangerous. The park should be an area to be enjoyed safely by local residents and visitors and there will be an increase in patrols in the area as we work with our partners to tackle this form of criminality.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3682 of 20 April. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
