Lifelong Learning Library Advisor Vacancy

The City of Edinburgh Council is looking to recruit a Lifelong Learning Library Advisor.

The post is part-time working 6.75 hours a week on Saturdays at various locations across the city including Currie and Wester Hailes library. The post is fixed term until 30 June 2019.

We need enthusiastic and motivated staff to help support our library service on Saturdays. Our libraries are socially inclusive spaces often in areas with extensive socio-economic issues. You will be required to be confident in working with a diverse range of children, young people and adults, which can often be challenging. It is therefore an advantage to have experience of working with children and young people.

If you are successful and join our libraries’ team you will provide front line services to our customers. You need to be a customer focused individual with outstanding communication skills who can engage with our wide range of customers.

You will deal with the day to day tasks of answering information enquiries, issuing books and other media, and managing library stock. You will help to plan and deliver events and activities with all customer groups, including children and young people. You will also be working with others across the library service, with locality teams and other partners to develop and improve library services.

One of your most important tasks will be to promote literacy and a love of reading to our customers – an interest in literature and reading would be useful. It would also help if you have had previous experience of working in libraries, although this is not essential.

You can apply for the post online on MyJobScotland here.
