Two Youths charged in Connection with Fire Raising

Police can confirm that two 16-year-old male youths have been charged in connection with willful fire-raising following a fire at Wester Hailes Education Centre.

They were both charged in relation to a fire on Murrayburn Drive that was reported around 8pm on Friday, 13 March.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and they will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 16 March, 2020.

Enquiries are ongoing into the fire at the Calders Community Garden where the Outdoor Classroom used by the Willow Garden was set ablaze and officers are following positive lines of enquiry in relation to the instances of assault.

Posting an update on social media on Saturday, Wester Hailes Education Centre said:

We will be open to all pupils on Monday. Swimming pool operating as normal this weekend however all other leisure facilities postponed until further notice – damage confined to one school games hall. Our thanks to Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for their swift response last night.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incidents and who may have any information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 3544 of 13 March.
