Prospect: September 2021 COVID-19 Update

Prospect Community Housing have released a September 2021 Update detailing their latest response and the impact of the Coronavirus on their services.

#KeepTheLifeLine
We have written to the local MP for Wester Hailes, Joanna Cherry to express our concerns about the proposed removal of the additional £20 per week uplift to Universal Credit recipients. This is due to end on 30 September 2021. We think that this cut of £86 per month will cause hardship and stress to many of our tenants, and we have asked her to oppose the cut.

If you feel strongly about this issue, we suggest that you also email or write to her. Your voice is important so if you are on Universal Credit, let her know how losing £20 a week will affect you and your family. Personal stories will help her understand the effects of the cut. Make sure you include your address and postcode to show that you are a constituent. You can email her, joanna.cherry.mp@parliament.uk or write to her at 139 Dundee Street, Edinburgh, EH11 1BP

Prospect’s Facebook Page
Prospect is now on Facebook! You can find us at prospectch. There’s information, news and advice for tenants which we hope everyone finds useful.

Office Re-opened
Our office is now open in the mornings from 9.30AM-12.30PM (Wednesdays 10.30AM-12.30PM). This is the first time we’ve been open to the public since March 2020 and we want to thank all our tenants for their support over the last 18 months. We would appreciate your continued co-operation as everyone gets used to new ways of working. During this initial opening period, only limited staff will be available so you may not see the member of staff you ask for when dropping in. Advance appointments can be made. There are guidelines to keep everyone safe while they are in the office and you can find these on our website.

Litter Pick
There’s a litter pick in Westburn Woods next Wednesday 15th Sept starting at 2PM. It’s being organised by Edinburgh & Lothian Greenspace Trust. All equipment provided. It’s part of regular weekly sessions with future activities including bird box making. For more info please email Esperanza@elgt.org.uk or phone/text 07432121998.

Vaccination Clinics

Drop-in clinics for both first and second vaccine doses are now available in all mass vaccination centres and community locations for people over the age of 16. The nearest clinic to Wester Hailes is Sighthill Medical Centre: weekdays 8.30AM-4.00PM but you can go to any of the clinics listed. There is also testing for people with no COVID-19 symptoms at the Healthy Living Centre till Sunday.
If you need help with transport for a vaccination, WHALE Arts can book a free taxi to get you there and back. Contact them in advance by email info@whalearts.co.uk or phone 0131 458 3267.
