With Kids Helping to Spread the Hugs

With Kids has been in local schools this week working with Primary 7s ahead of National Hugging Day!

A With Kids family worker has been going into classes to teach Primary 7s about the neuroscience of the hug and pupils have been using their creativity to write poems, stories and make art about who they like to hug and what hugging loved ones means to them.

Each school who took part also received a banner designed by graphic design students from Edinburgh College, John Robertson and Javi Escarabajal, to place outside the school in celebration of National Hugs Day 2022 and banners can also been seen around Wester Hailes and Broomhouse. All of the pupils also received postcards about hugging that they could give to important people in their lives.

This project was possible thanks to the Strivers grant making project delivered by Space and the Broomhouse Hub. Obviously within the context of Covid, alongside this is the important message that hugs, at least for now should be reserved for family members and always done with consent but now more than ever, we all need a good hug from someone we love! Happy Hugs Day from With Kids!
