Edinburgh Art Festival will be holding a writing workshop with Amanda Thomson and Elizabeth Reeder on Saturday 27 August 2022, 5.00pm – 7.00pm.
The session will take place on board the Lochrin Belle canal boat meeting at the Canal behind Cars 4 You, Murrayburn Rd, EH14 2SN before heading towards Leamington Lift Bridge.

No previous writing experience is necessary; over 16s* and all abilities very welcome.
The way we each experience places can be vastly different – our unique emotions, knowledge, memories and company can all alter how we connect to the land. What and who we’re in company with shapes our connections to a landscape. In this workshop, we’ll be looking at our relationship with a place over time.
Amanda Thomson is a visual artist and writer who lives and works in Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands and in Glasgow. Amanda Thomson’s interdisciplinary work often concerns notions of home, movement, migration, landscapes, the natural world and how places come to be made. Thomson’s commission starts with specific aspects of the canal’s flora and fauna as a way of navigating its rich social and natural history. The work will interweave language, people and place, movements and migrations, past and present.
Elizabeth Reeder is a writer, walker and a keen, amateur flower and plant person, and her writing is often rooted in places and the things we find there. She had two books published in 20/21: a novel, An Archive of Happiness (Penned in the Margins) and a collection of hybrid lyric essays, microbursts, which is an artistic collaboration with Amanda Thomson (Prototype Publishing). She a senior lecturer in Creative Writing at University of Glasgow and is PI for the RSE DeathWrites network, which brings together 30 Scottish-based writers to write about all things dying, death and grief. She is an Endangered Landscapes Artist in Residence in the Cairngorms until September 2022.
