WHALE Arts is offering volunteering opportunities to anyone with an interest in catering, food preparation and service to help out with the new Pod Café.


Learn to prepare café food and hot drinks in the brand-new community café! The Pod café is launching to the public in late January, and we are looking for volunteers to help us make it a warm, welcoming space to be in. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic volunteer to work on their customer service skills in a comfortable situation. WHALE is looking for people to volunteer at least 3 hours per shift with flexibility around days. All training will be provided in the café, and freshly made food and hot drinks will be provided during your shift.

The Community Café Volunteers help in the Community Cafe at WHALE Arts. You will be supporting the Community Café by serving customers efficiently by taking food and drink orders, taking payments and offering a high level of customer service. You may also help with making coffees, cleaning duties, stock rotation, etc.

Requirements:

  • A friendly and engaging personality with good communication skills
  • Being comfortable working with members of the public, and being able to provide good customer service
  • Complying with Health & Safety standards, strict hygiene procedures, and food safety laws
  • No hospitality experience needed, although experience in a customer service role is desirable
  • Minimum age 16

Duties

  • Taking food & drinks orders and serving them to customers
  • Using a coffee machine & a till
  • Taking payments and cash handling
  • Helping with cleaning duties, making inventories, stock rotation

Training

  • Full training for this role and an induction into the organisation will be given
  • Barista training
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate training will be paid for by the organisation to fulfil the role
  • This is a good opportunity to gain experience in the catering industry within a supportive environment 

Expenses

All volunteers are entitled to claim reasonably incurred travel expenses, whilst carrying out their role. Lunch is provided from the café.

Boundaries of Role:   To work within Whale Arts policies and procedure for GDPR and confidentiality.
