Wester Hailes Library to become a ‘Lend and Mend Hub’

Wester Hailes library has been selected to become a ‘Lend and Mend Hub’ as part of a new project aimed at helping with the cost-of-living crisis.

Managed by the Scottish Library and Information Council, the new library hubs will give communities free access to repair, reuse, rent and upcycle everyday items, to help keep items in use for longer, rather than them being thrown away.

The library will join five other services in AberdeenInverclydeMidlothianPerth and South Ayrshire in developing the country’s first circular community hubs, leading the way in developing a long-term model for circular economy activities (the model of production and consumption aimed at eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials and regenerating nature).

The purpose of the hub is:

  • Mending facility – free to use equipment and tools for you to give your goods a new life
  • An information hub to find out how you can repair, reuse and recycle in your local community
  • Workshops and classes to share and improve your mending, reuse and upcycling skills

Wester Hailes library is now carrying out an online consultation asking you what you would like to see at their Lend and Mend Hub.

For more information contact the library on 0131 529 5667 or speak to a member of the library staff.
