Launch week at Edinburgh Community Sport Hub

A new sport hub is opening soon at Heriot Watt.

Established in April 2013, Heriot-Watt University Community Sport Hub is part of a national project to raise the capacity of sport in Scotland. Community Sport Hubs, sportscotland’s contribution to the Scottish Government’s 2014 legacy plan, aim to increase the number of people of all ages participating in sport and physical activity in local communities across Scotland.

All Hubs will work to the following five key principles:

  • Growth in participation
  • Engage the local community
  • Promote community leadership
  • Offer a range of sporting opportunities
  • Bring all appropriate (key) partners/ groups/people together

The nucleus of the Hub will be at Heriot-Watt University with the surrounding geographical areas included in the Hub’s remit, such as Balerno, Currie, Juniper Green, Wester Hailes, Sighthill and Ratho.

A full-time position is funded by sportscotland and Heriot-Watt up to March 2015 to work on developing sport in this locality with the assistance of a number of key partners from clubs, schools, FE/ HE institutions and other community organisations.
