A massive 212 independence activists gathered at Wester Hailes Shopping Centre at the 3rd Edinburgh “Super Saturday” day of action event on 5th April. After a minute’s applause in tribute to life-long campaigner for Scottish independence, Margo MacDonald MSP, who died yesterday workers split into teams to bring the independence message to residents throughout the local area.

Event organiser Sheena Jardine was delighted with the turnout. “The response we received from our Edinburgh workers was beyond even our most optimistic expectation. Our leafleters distributed nearly 30,000 leaflets and our canvassers knocked on over 4,000 doors. I doubt that our opponents in Better Together fielded even half of our numbers throughout the whole of Scotland. Our work today illustrates once again that the momentum in this campaign is with the movement for Scottish independence and this is reinforced by the early reports from our canvassers that, amongst those voters who have made up their minds, Yes is well ahead in voting intentions. We’ll not become complacent though and will be out on the streets of Scotland working for every vote right up to the 18th of September!”

The areas covered by today’s campaign included Wester Hailes, Broomhouse, Sighthill, Parkhead, Stenhouse and Saughton Mains.
