The latest batch of volunteers graduated from the canal college just before Christmas and now the canal is looking for new recruits to start the course which begins in January 2015.
The young people are aged between 16 and 25 and they had just completed a 14 week heritage skills training programme designed to help address youth unemployment in Edinburgh and Falkirk at either end of the Union Canal.
The canal college is supported by a £400,000 grant and will run till June 2015. It is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, the European Union Interreg IVB North West Europe project ‘Green & Blue Futures’, Scottish Natural Heritage and Scottish Canals.
