Top five picks for Christmas on ITV

Here are the Digitals Sentinel’s top five picks on ITV over the Christmas period.

Downton Abbey
Christmas Day, 25 December, 9.00pm

Julian Fellowes’ widely-acclaimed period drama returns for a two hour special. As the family and their servants enjoy the festivities, there is romance, a heart-breaking farewell, sad memories of lost loved ones and joyful reunions.

It’s grouse season and Lord Sinderby, has rented out Brancaster Castle in Northumberland and invited the Crawley family to a shooting party. While good sport is enjoyed, Stowell (Armstrong) has an axe to grind and a scandalous secret threatens to undermine the holiday.  Surprises are in store as the families become better acquainted with each other and some new faces arrive on the scene.
Meanwhile the servants hold the fort back at Downton. As Anna faces an uncertain future behind bars, Bates takes drastic measures in a bid to clear her name. Baxter and Molesley are busy on a joint plan and Carson and Mrs Hughes consider a business venture.

Skyfall
Christmas Eve, 24 December 8.00pm

The Network TV premiere of the latest Bond film. Bond finds himself on assignment in Istanbul, but when the job goes gravely wrong and agents are murdered, MI6 itself comes under attack from threats both inside and out.

A Christmas Cracker
Boxing Day, 26 December, 8.00pm

Bradley Walsh hosts a Christmas spectacular, recorded live at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. He is joined by the Muppets, Katherine Jenkins, Al Murray, the Cirque de Soleil, dance-act Flawless, the cast of West End musical White Christmas and The Vamps. The star studded list could provide quite the Christmas treat.

Through the Christmas Keyhole
Boxing Day, 26 December, 9.30pm

Celebrity Juice star Keith Lemon returns for a Christmas edition of the revivied popular and long-running game show. The panel getting in the Christmas spirit are Jonathan Ross, Louis Walsh and Kym Marsh.

Birds of a Feather
Boxing Day, 26 December, 9.00pm

The hit comedy Birds of a Feather reurns to ITV this Christmas with a brand new series starting in the new year. Dorien is treating Sharon and Tracey to a Christmas trip to the Canaries, but with Tracey’s fear of flying, Sharon’s hopes for adventure, and Dorien’s eagerness for anything in trousers, will it be ‘plane’ sailing?
