A new exhibition organised by Edinburgh People’s Festival, displaying artwork created by prisoners in HMP Saughton is now on display at the WHALE Arts Centre.

The exhibition titled “Straight Outta Saughton” is open to the public and will run from today, Monday 29 August 2016 to Monday 12 September 2016, at the WHALE Arts Centre, 30 Westburn Grove, open 9am – 5pm.

The canvases were originally standard interior design abstract paintings which had all been defaced by staff while on display in the SPS staff area of HMP Edinburgh. SPS and the Learning Centre Art department agreed that a fresh, new display was badly needed.

The only brief given to the students was to create something new, original and personal, giving the canvases a new lease of life.

Following the exhibition at WHALE, the paintings will be rehung in the same corridor.
