WHALE Arts are looking to recruit several volunteers including a Handyperson, Delivery Driver and Community Gardeners.
Handy Person
Our handy person, makes small repairs around our building as well as fixing appliances and equipment They also look after the general maintenance of the building and outside spaces.
Duties
- Maintenance and small repairs
- Identify and report any major repairs to the facilities manager
- Ensuring fixtures and fitting are in good working order
Skills
- Ability to understand instructions
- Good problem solving skills
- Can work on their own initiative
- Good working with their hands
Past experience working as a handy person is not needed but we are looking for someone who is good a fixing things and is mobile enough to the jobs listed above
What Will You Gain?
This role will also allow the opportunity to meet new people and develop your skills and confidence. You will gain experience in facilities maintenance and gain a level 1 health and safety certificate.
Training
We will provide training for this role, were required and an induction into the organisation will be given.
Expenses
All volunteers are entitled to claim reasonably incurred travel expenses, whilst carrying out their role. There is a maximum expense rate of £10 per day for travel to and from WHALE activity. Any unusual travel expenses greater than £10 must be agreed in advance with the WHALE Link Worker. Were individuals are volunteering over lunch they are entitled
expenses up to £5 for lunch, unless lunch is being provided by Whale. Volunteers must fill out an expenses form and attach valid receipts in order to be reimbursed.
Volunteer Driver
Our volunteer drivers have become a key part of our team during the COVID-19 pandemic,helping us get art parcels and lunches out to our community members who are most in need.
Duties
- Complete driver’s declaration form
- Deliver food and art packs to local Wester Hailes residents on ad-hoc basis when available
- Use the delivery driver app to deliver parcels on your route, in a time effective way
- Ensure deliveries are made in line with current health and safety requirements of delivery drivers during COVID-19, using PPE equipment provided (dust-free gloves, approved masks) and adhering to 2-metre social distancing rules.
Skills
- A valid, clean drivers Licence
- A road worthy car which you are insured to drive and has an MOT, if required
- A level of fitness as you may need to use stairs
Training
Full training for this role and an induction into the organisation will be given.
Expenses
Drivers can claim £0.45 per mile driven whilst using your own car volunteering for WHALE. Were individuals are volunteering over lunch they are entitled expenses up to £5 for lunch, unless lunch is being provided by Whale. Volunteers must fill out an expenses form and attach valid receipts in order to be reimbursed.
Community Gardening Volunteer
Our gardening volunteers work hard to maintain, build and grow in our community garden.
Duties
- General Garden Maintenance
- Building garden structures
- Planting flowers, fruit and vegetables
- Following COVID-19 guidelines for meeting people outside
- Ability to work outside in all various weather conditions
Skills
- A green thumb
- Willingness to work outside
- Team working skills
Training
