Prospect Community Housing are working with the Edinburgh and Lothian Greenspace Trust to run a series of sessions aimed at conserving and improving the Westburn Woods.
There will be lots of opportunities over the next couple of months to get involved in volunteering, creative activities and events focused on making the woods more accessible and welcoming.
October Wednesday Sessions
- 6th October Litter Picking, all equipment provided, help tidy up the wood!
- 13th October Bulb Planting, help plant flowering bulbs for the Spring
- 20th October Bushcraft Activities for Families, practice knots and building shelters
- 27th October Thinning and removing invasive species, tools & materials provided
All the sessions start at 1.00PM and last about 1.5 hours.
Recent activities have included litter picking, a bird box making workshop and woodland management where the group tackled thinning out non-native invasive species in the woods. This will enable other native plants and trees to grow, increasing biodiversity in the woodland space which is one of the aims of the Westburn Woods Management Plan.
