Green Pencil Award Competition

Edinburgh Libraries is excited to announce the return of their environmentally themed creative writing competition Green Pencil Award.

The competition is open to all P4-P7 and S1 – S3 aged children in Edinburgh.

Do you think you could write a story or a poem featuring one of Scotland’s heroes of nature?
It could be the story of a tree who provides shelter, the bumblebee on its mission to pollinate the flowers, the weather playing a heroic part in everyday life.

It’s up to you, the writer, to enchant them with a story or poem that includes the nature of Scotland. Your entry could be a

  • Poetry – haiku, acrostics, metaphor or shape poems
  • Prose– short stories or imaginative tales of any genre

They ask that the writing is your own work and no longer than one side of A4 paper.

The competition launches on 4th September with a 20th October closing date.
