Edinburgh Trams have announced a reduced service from 7.00pm to 7.00am from Friday October 27 to Sunday 12 November 2023 due to engineering works.
Engineering works later this month will see changes to evening and early morning tram services. Essential works are required to replace tracks and points at York Place and Shandwick Place, while at the same time maintenance checks to the overhead line equipment will take place on the recently extended network to Newhaven.
During these times, for the duration of the works, trams can only run between Edinburgh Airport and Haymarket stop. This means that there will be no services to all stops between West End and Newhaven.
During the daytime, a full tram service to all stops will run from every 7 minutes.
To help customers complete their journeys during all closures, ticket acceptance will be in place on some Lothian bus services, and to connect with the tram for onward travel between Haymarket and the Airport.
Andy Conway, Edinburgh Trams Head of Engineering, commented:
As part of our scheduled maintenance programme we will be changing tracks and points on two key sections of the line for the first time since the start of operations in 2014. This will ensure the safety and reliability of future tram services.
We will also use this works period to conduct a full maintenance check on some parts of the vital operating equipment on the new section of our network to Newhaven.
Works have been timed to conclude ahead of what is expected to be a busy Christmas period and our Customer Experience team will be available on X (Twitter), at help points and via the live chat, to offer travel advice.
Ticket Acceptance on Lothian buses:
During the works period after 7pm and before 7am, tram tickets can be used on certain Lothian routes:
