Wester Hailes library held a medal ceremony on Friday, 2 September 2016, to reward all the keen readers who completed this year’s Summer reading challenge.

The ten readers were presented with their own medal by the library staff. This year there were 10 medal winners who had each managed to complete six books over the summer as part of the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge.

Apart from receiving a medal there was also a prize draw. All the medal winners names were entered into a hat with two special prizes available, family tickets to Dynamic Earth and Camera Obscura.

The library was also pleased to present their newest mascot, a ginormous crocodile! The crocodile had been created over the summer by some of the children during the library’s summer activities. The children were inspired by Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile, and made their own to celebrate the Roald Dahl 100 celebrations. Be sure to head a long to the library and see him for yourself!

The Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. It aims to get children to read any six books of their choice from their library during holidays. Every year there’s a different theme; this year it’s The Big Friendly Read as the challenge decided to link up with the global year-long Roald Dahl 100 celebrations.
