A little bit about Change Kitchen at The Broomhouse Centre
The Broomhouse Centre, a registered charity and company limited by guarantee has been in operation for 25 years and presently manages 10 core projects, employs 24 staff, supports 105 volunteers and has a turnover cc £500,000. We are about to embark on an exciting new phase as we begin the demolition and construction of a new building. During this time operations will continue as we decant to two local sites and we will be looking to maintain and grow our catering services throughout.
There has been a Café facility in the building, serving the community since it opened, and 18 years ago it was developed in to a training café for vulnerable groups of people providing life and social skills as well as accredited training programmes. In 2010 an outside catering business was set up providing a City wide delivery service to voluntary sector organisations and to private companies. This arm of the business provides valuable training for our trainees/volunteers, whilst being a valuable source of income for the organisation.
We recently secured funding to grow all catering operations for the organisation as ‘Change Kitchen’. This will combine both the commercial and social aspects of the business. Until we move back into the new building, we are looking to develop the Outside Catering and Café under the banner of ‘Great Food; Great People; Great Cause’, providing excellent food, value and service. It will be the guiding light for good food and eating habits in the locality, providing access to high quality healthy food whilst also being a community connector.
Once we are in our new building the opportunities for innovation really extend as we will have space to hosts parties, weddings and meetings in addition to community, partnership and special events; exciting times ahead!
