Man Dies after Fire in Calder Gardens

A man has sadly passed away after a flat fire in Calder Gardens this morning Monday 29 January 2024.

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 56 year old man has lost his life after an incident that saw Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguish a fire using four fire appliances and a high reach appliance. A probe is ongoing but there is not though to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

Around 12.50am on Monday January 29, we were called to a report of a fire at a flat in the Calder Gardens area of Edinburgh.

Emergency services attended and a 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. No one else was injured and the building was not evacuated.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, there are no suspicious circumstances at this time.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said:

We received reports of a fire at around 12.46am on Monday January 29.

We attended the incident with four pumping appliances and a high reach appliance.
