The council will grant leases of the two empty units at Westside Plaza just by the bus stance when the Economy Committee meets next week.
Unit 11 will be leased for 10 years to Nabi Gul Maymand at an annual rent of £6,500 plus VAT for use as a newsagent shop. There will be a three month rent free period presumably to allow for some refurbishment, and the rent will then be reviewed in five years time. The new tenant will be obliged to keep the shop in good repair during the term of the lease.
Mr Maymand already operates a newsagent shop in Prestonpans.
The council views this arrangement as a good deal, since the property has been vacant for some time and the council has not received any rent during that period.
Unit 12 will be leased for 25 years to Tacettin Coker at an annual rent of £7,500 plus VAT for use as a hot food takeaway. Again there will be a three month rent free period and the tenant will be liable to maintain the premises during the period of the lease.
