Lothian Buses announce service changes

busLothian Buses has revealed their latest service changes which will come into effect from Sunday 4 October.

Have a look below to see the complete changes to see if you are effected, bus services which visit Wester Hailes plaza will be in bold:

New Services:
X33 Mayfield & Dalkeith to Edinburgh City Centre

Bus Services with only minor changes:
10, 11, 12, 16, 18, 20, 26, 29, 30, 31, 34, 36, 37, 39, 47, 44/44A, 45, 67, 104, 113

Bus Services with revised timetables:
5, 6, 21, 23, 27, 32, 33, 35, X44 (Balerno), 47, 49, 63

Bus Services with revised route & timetable:
8, X12, 14, 15/X15, 40, 41, 42

Bus Services with revised stopping pattern & timetable:
X29, X31, X37 (these services will now observe fewer stops within the City to provide quicker journey times for passengers in Midlothian)

Significant changes:

Service 5 – Monday to Friday daytime frequency now every 12 minutes.

Service 6 – Sunday service withdrawn due to poor levels of passenger demand.

Service 8 – Minor route change at the Royal Infirmary to serve the west entrance in both directions, rather than the current one-way loop.

Service X12 – Most journeys now start and finish at Shandwick Place providing better connections for passengers.

Service 14 – Extended to the new terminus at Greendykes, serving the new housing south of Niddrie Burn.

Service 15/X15 – Most journeys re-labelled as X15, operating on a limited stop basis to reduce journey times from Edinburgh to Mid and East Lothian. Buses now serve Penicuik Town Centre.

Service 21 – Revised timetable Monday to Saturday to improve reliability. Only minor timetable changes on Sundays.

Service 23 – Saturday daytime frequency now every 15 minutes.

Service 27 – Saturday daytime frequency now every 15 minutes.

Service X29 and X31 – Buses to the City will operate non-stop from Gilmerton Crossroads (X29) or Liberton Hospital (X31), then Salisbury Place, Surgeons’ Hall and then all stops through the City Centre. Similar in the southbound direction, except that the Salisbury Place stop will now be the stop south of East Preston Street. This will provide quicker journey times for passengers in Midlothian.

Service 32 – Revised timetable with the last evening return trip from Clovenstone withdrawn due to poor levels of passenger demand.

Service 33 – Saturday daytime frequency now every 20 minutes.

Service X33NEW SERVICE introduced between Mayfield, Dalkeith and the City Centre at peak times on Mondays to Fridays.

Service 35 – Revised Sunday timetable to improve reliability. Only minor timetable changes Monday to Saturday.

Service X37 – Revised timetable & revised stopping pattern.
A new morning X37 is introduced from Deanburn at 09:00 on Mondays to Fridays.
The stopping pattern for the X37 is altered.  Buses will observe all stops from Deanburn to Straiton Park & Ride, then non-stop to Kaimes Crossroads, then Salisbury Place, Surgeons’ Hall and all stops to Granton Harbour.  Similar in the southbound direction, except that the Salisbury Place stop will be the stop south of East Preston Street.  This will provide quicker journey times for passengers in Midlothian.

Service 40 – Monday to Saturday the route of this service will be curtailed to operate between Penicuik and Musselburgh Tesco only. On Sundays the route will operate between Roslin and Musselburgh Tesco only.

Service 41 – The route through the City Centre for northbound buses is altered.  Buses will now operate via The Mound, Hanover Street, George Street, Frederick Street and Princes Street, providing better City Centre bus stops.  All journeys will now serve King’s Buildings with the section of route between Blackford Station and Morningside withdrawn due to very poor levels of passenger demand.

Service 42 – The route through the City Centre for northbound buses is altered.  Buses will now operate via The Mound, Hanover Street, George Street and Frederick Street, providing better City Centre bus stops.   Monday to Friday, buses to and from Davidson’s Mains will additionally serve Craigleith Retail Park.

Service X44 (Balerno) – Revised afternoon timetable with 3 journeys operating to Balerno.

Service 47 – Monday to Saturday the late evening service (after 21:00) will now operate hourly.

Service 49 – Monday to Friday timetable revised with 2 buses per hour terminating at Sheriffhall Park & Ride and 2 buses per hour continuing to Rosewell. On Saturdays, the daytime frequency is now every 20 minutes with all journeys operating between The Jewel and Rosewell.

Service 63 – Due to very low levels of passenger demand, some of the later evening journeys introduced in March 2015 on a commercial basis will be withdrawn.  Likewise, the first return journey on Saturday mornings will also be withdrawn.
