WHALE’s 25th Birthday Celebration a success

WHALE Arts held their 25th Birthday party over the weekend with plenty of local people heading along to join in the fun and celebrate the landmark occasion.

There was plenty of fun to be had for families with All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre running a taster session, the building was turned into a work of art by Epic Chalk with EKoS, a special dance session with tutor Eleanor Robertson where a group of kids were able to show off some of the dance moves they learned over the Summer, sculpture making with Westburn CAN and a collection of tasty, colourful cakes for the Birthday cake competition.

WHALE was happy to announce that the winner of their Birthday Card Competition was local lad Sean McNeill who won a bag of art supplies and whose design will feature on the front of WHALE Art’s latest What’s On guide.

It wasn’t all for the kids though with WHALE resident drama group WHALE’s Without A Cause giving a performance of their latest work ‘All Hailes Macbeth’ and the official unveiling of Stitch N Time’s huge handcrafted community map of Wester Hailes which will be exhibited in the WHALE Arts Centre in the coming weeks.

WHALE Arts Agency (Wester Hailes Arts for Leisure and Education) launched in 1992 and was originally based in the Blue Hut on the Murrayburn Greenway. Over the past 25 years WHALE has grown, putting on Fringe shows, moving to a purpose-built Art centre in November 2000 and even welcoming a Royal visitor. It has continued to encourage local people to become involved in the Arts through training courses, workshops, events and activities from circus skills to dark room photography.
