Sunflower Pantry officially opens in new home

Sunflower Pantry Official Opening at Gate 55

The Sunflower Pantry held a celebration today officially opening in their new home in Gate 55.

After several years operating out of Clovenstone Community Centre the Health Agency’s Sunflower Pantry has officially moved to Gate 55 continuing to offer low cost food to members. Speaking during a tour of the Pantry’s new setup, Stacey Wilson, the Pantry’s coordinator said they had been at Clovenstone for a number of years and were very grateful for their time there. However, the new space at Gate 55 is much larger and will allow the Pantry to continue to grow, store more food, see more people and hopefully open more often to their members. After the tour everyone at the celebration was able to relax in the sunshine, listening to live music from Sistema Scotland’s Big Noise Wester Hailes project, and enjoy a delicious lunch of homemade pasta salad, green salad, and sweet treats made by Stacey and the Sunflower Pantry team. Have a look at our photos of the event here:

The pantry allows members to pay £4.50 and receive up to 10 items made up of 7 diamonds and 3 hearts items, categorised by the items worth, they also where available have a selection of free locally grown vegetables, sanitary produces, and pet food. It is currently open from 9.30am – 12.00pm and then 5.00pm – 7.00pm on Tuesdays, with hopes to soon open on a Wednesday too. All food is obtained through donations or from Fairshare.

The Pantry membership is currently full but has plans to gradually expand once they are settled in their new space as long as they can maintain their stock.
