Detectives in the west of the city are appealing for witnesses following an assault and attempted robbery.

The incident happened around 11.30pm on Friday 23 October 2015 in Calder Road.

A 49-year-old man was walking through the underpass when a male approached from behind and punched him before attempting to steal his bag.

A struggle ensued but the victim was able to hold onto his property and the suspect then made off empty-handed towards Calder Road, turning left as he left the underpass.

Inquiries are ongoing to trace the male responsible and anyone who was in the area and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, early twenties, slim build and a gaunt face. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Gavin Howat said:

Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured, but was understandably shaken as a result of this attack.

We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and can help us identify him.

Similarly, anyone with any other information relevant to this investigation should also get in touch.

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
