Screen Education Edinburgh will be launching Through the Lens a free filmmaking course for adults living in South-West Edinburgh.
Learners on the course will get hands-on training in key filmmaking roles such as camera and sound, screenwriting, directing, producing, production design, and editing, also exploring film by watching and discussing films, before coming together as a crew to create a short film in your community.
The course also includes industry talks from professionals working in film and TV, social events including cinema trips, and progression advice and support.
The course is open for applications from adults aged 18+ until 16 February 2026. Areas in the South West covered by the course are: Bankhead, Broomhouse, Calders, Clermiston, Clovenstone, Dumbryden, Gorgie, Greenbank, Hailesland, Longstone, Oxgangs, Slateford, Sighthill, Stenhouse, Westburn, Wester Hailes. The course will take place at WHALE Arts on Mondays starting 10 March 2026.
