New Walk-In GP service opening in Wester Hailes

Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre

A new walk-in GP service will open at the Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre, 30 Harvesters Way, Edinburgh, EH14 3JF on Wednesday 11th February 2026.

This is a pilot service run by NHS Lothian and Edinburgh Health & Social Care Partnership and funded by the Scottish Government.

At this time, the service will only be available to patients registered with a group of GP practices that regularly work together in southwest Edinburgh, including:

  1. Gilmore Medical Practice
  2. Leven Medical Practice
  3. Sighthill Green Medical Practice
  4. Sighthill Red Medical Practice
  5. Slateford Medical Practice
  6. Springwell Medical Practice
  7. Whinpark Medical Practice
  8. Wester Hailes Medical Practice

Access is being limited initially to ensure the service is safe and effective for patients and staff, but patient demand will be regularly reviewed.

The walk-in service will be open from 12 noon to 8pm, seven days a week, and does not require an appointment.

It is suitable for patients who have urgent conditions such as new fever, pain, rashes, skin conditions, respiratory problems, gynaecology concerns or abdominal symptoms

Depending on clinical need, you may be seen by a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner. As the pilot progress, musculoskeletal physiotherapy will also be available.

Please note, if you are pregnant, or if you need care for a child under 5, please contact your usual GP or other healthcare professional. This walk-in service is not suitable for these needs.

The service is not for medical emergencies, minor injuries, mental health assessments, routine care, long-term conditions, repeat prescriptions or medicines management. In these circumstances, please continue to access the right care in the right place:

  • Always call 999 in an emergency
  • Call 111 to be scheduled a minor injuries appointment
  • Consult your GP practice for pre-diagnosed conditions and ongoing care
  • Visit your local pharmacy first for minor illnesses
  • Go to NHSinform.scot for online advice about minor ailments and local services
  • If both your GP practice and the walk-in service are closed, call 111

If you attend with a condition that is not urgent or is better treated elsewhere, you will be redirected to the most appropriate service.
