Calderglen Early Years Centre has been permanent closed and is set to be demolished after a building inspection found serious issues with the roof.

Parents were told on Thursday that the nursery would be permanently closing as of Friday 27 February 2026, with alternate arrangements being made for the children the following week.

A council spokesperson said:

We appreciate that this news may come as a shock to families and want to reassure that council officers have been working hard to identify alternative provision in the area for all children, including at nearby Sighthill Primary School.

We are pleased to confirm that suitable alternative nursery provision has been found for all children within the local area and families have been informed where their child will attend from Monday 2 March.

Speaking on Facebook local MP Scott Arthur commented:

I’m really saddened to hear that Calderglen EYC (Sighthill Road) is set to be demolished due to serious issues with the roof, problems so extensive and costly that the Council has decided the building can’t be saved.

What’s hard to understand is how the building was allowed to reach this condition, and why this decision seems to have come at such short notice.

Our community deserves clear answers. Our children and staff deserve better planning and transparency.

We can’t change what’s already happened, but we can absolutely ask the questions that need to be asked.
